I am deeply proud of our last 18 years. It was a wonderful journey to remember and celebrate. I pay tribute to the pioneering members, staff, and clients who laid the foundation for our present. After spending the past 18 years in the machinery business, I feel very privileged to be writing this message as the Chief Executive Officer of Shinsei Machinery Co., Ltd.
I was born in 1972 and raised in a very rural area called Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyūshū Region, and I came to Tokyo at the age of 18. I have had the pleasure of working and gaining experience with construction equipment makers, two construction companies, and trading companies.
In 2001, at a very critical period for the Japanese economy, everyone advised me that “it would be best not to start a company at such time”. It was certainly a challenging time to experience, as banks underwent insolvency, but in retrospect, it was good to start despite such difficulties. After that, I overcame many obstacles and changes. With the price hike of crude oil in the Middle East coinciding with a surge in demand for construction and construction equipment, manufacturers could not cope, to the point that exportable old or secondhand units even became more expensive than new ones. After the collapse of Lehman Brothers shook the world economy, I was sure that our company would go out of business. In 2011, the East Japan Earthquake occurred, changing the world completely. Furthermore, one of our 45-ton Rough Terrain Cranes was stolen from the stockyard and never found, we had to deal with fraudsters, and close two other businesses; it was very painful for me to say goodbye to my staff and clients.
However, we are currently blessed with 21 experts, and we have served about 5,000 units of construction equipment, 90% of which are cranes, to clients. We set up the Tokyo head office, two stockyards in Saitama, one each in Chiba and Sendai, and an office and stockyard in CHŪSHIKOKU. We have standardized a bottom line of 150 units for rental stock, and we have also set up rental services in Thailand and Taiwan. Since 2017, we have started to import Liebherr Foundation Machines directly from Liebherr, introducing this world-class brand to the Japanese market.
We always emphasize three principles: ① Honor your promise; ② never tell lies; and ③ help those who are in need. These principles remind us of our mission, which is of the “client’s acknowledgement with satisfaction” through our knowledge, standard of service, and honesty. Again, as the machinery industry is very large and risky, without trust and relationships, you won't last long. Clients are those key relationships.
